Wheelchair users are often confronted by several difficulties during travelling and a good information system should help the user to identify relevant information.
Transport services may cater for the wheelchairs but usually the frequency and routes are limited. This means more planning of journeys must be made and information should be easily accessed and current.
Wheelchair access to hotels and the rooms in the hotel is often not possible or extremely difficult. Therefore a system which can highlight to the user hotels which are wheelchair friendly, can assist during the planning stage. Access to public buildings is also of interest to wheel chair users. Information relevant to these users can be highlighted if available.
Using the Avanti system the wheelchair user can ask for the system to take
into account all these issues. The information returned to the user will be
specifically tailored to their needs elliminating the need for the user to
search the content for the relevant information.
The processes involved are
based around the AVANTI ideas of Adaptive and Adaptabilty. In the context of
this scenario the system will adapt to the users needs and present the data in a
manor that is correct for user level and means.
There are three main interactive steps involved to use the system.
