The ACTS Programme

AVANTI is an ongoing project (1996-1998) within the ACTS (Advanced Communication and Technologies Services) Programme funded by the European Commission. The ACTS programme is part of the Fourth Framework programme of the Community in the field of Research and Technological Development (RTD) and represents the European Commission's (EC's) major effort to support pre-competitive RTD in the field of telecommunications. Activities within the programme are expected to contribute to general objectives such as sustainable development and improving the quality of life of the community's citizens yielding concrete advantages to be delivered in the short, medium and long term (UG).

The AVANTI project particularly contributes to the overall ACTS objectives for social integration of a wide variety of people through the provision of accessibility to services by able, elderly and disabled citizens. It also supports the concept of cohesion of the European service provision through the utilisation and support of various types of access terminal and all the different communication networks we have come to use day to day
